What do we offer?
The Club offers a variety of training from basic diving qualifications that are recognised all over the world to a variety of skill development course such as oxygen administration, compressor operation to boat handling.
Who does the training?
Training is organised and taken by fellow members who have achieved qualified BSAC instructor status. The instructors are there for their love of diving and offer their knowledge and experience free, which means that the trainees only incur the costs of certification and training materials.
Where do we train?
The theory and pool sessions take place on club night at the Spiceball Sports Centre, Banbury. The Open water sessions take the form of day trips to Stoney Cove during weekends although they can also take place in the sea.
Club night for trainees - There is a training schedule for club night and this tells you what session you are doing with which instructors when. The basic format for training on club night is:
7.30pm - 8.30pm - Theory sessions in the crèche.
8.30pm - 9.00pm - Collect equipment and change.
9.00pm - 10.00pm - Pool session
10.00pm - 10.30pm - Change and wash and return equipment
10.30pm - “Shoat” in the bar
What happens if I learnt to dive with another agency?
Many members learnt to dive with another agency such as PADI and there is a well worn path to helping you cross over to BSAC to continue your training. You simply need to talk to the Dive Officer when you join and he will decide what steps you need to take. This will depend on what qualification and experience you have. Any one crossing over from another agency will require you to be briefed about how the BSAC system works to ensure that you can take full advantage of the club and your membership of BSAC.
